Hidden blessing behind troubles:
Any trouble is worth if it brings us nearer to God.
Deitrich Boenhoeffr a German writer and teacher when taken into prison wrote few letters in prison. He did not think even a single day was wasted. He quoted “Not everything that happens is the purpose of God, yet nothing happens without His will”.
Situations may look bad, but we can always find God in those events. Often we need a troublesome situation to make us pray. Always God teaches us to look for something good in our troubles. God is in control, He knows our present situation. We can find Jehoshapath praying when he was anxious, God puts us in that situation to learn and to draw us closer to Him.. When we are anxious we naturally look only at the present pain and think about it, we tend to fear about it and the future expecting even more troubles, but we need to look back and think how good God has been to us in the past which will give hope.
I Kings 19:4-7
Sometimes when God consoles us in our troubles we listen and get peace, but we tend to return to the same state just like Elijah. I Kings 19:10 , Elijah even after being consoled did not want to get up he ate the food and slept back, because he was afraid and did not think it was possible. We can see that there was so much trouble for a man of God .He ran away and did not want to come back again, Elijah the great prophet ran for his life. At this point Elijah would have even expected that through God’s power Ahab’s mind would probably change as a positive response to Elijah’s prayers. We don’t know exactly what went in his mind but all we know is, Elijah’s faith was shattered at that point. Sometimes we even tend to become like Elijah .When situations go worse, when our prayers go unanswered in times of troubles, when the results we expected never happened, questions rise in our mind. We get confused and we even question our faith, sometimes we even ask why did God call me? Is it really His purpose?
As a normal human being Elijah at this point only looked for the favour of man. Elijah couldn’t see God’s purpose in him, his eyes were blindfolded due to fear. These events actually happened after the mighty slaughter of the Baal prophets .But still Elijah’s faith was shattered due to fear. Actually the devil knows very well that he cannot do anything against us, so he just tries to shatter our faith by bringing fear, hurting our mind with troubles. But the truth is he is afraid of us, he knows he can’t do anything to us. He knows that we can take control of the situation as we are heirs of God not servants, we don’t have to beg for anything. But most of the time he makes us feel like we are even lesser than a servant not worthy to ask anything. He makes us feel as if we never had the authority over him. Jezebel knew she couldn’t touch Elijah so she was playing mind games by just threatening him. This is what the devil does to us ,he knows our strength and the blessing God has for us, so he tries to just shake our faith and bring fear. That is the reason God says fear not. So being spiritual warriors we must understand troubles are nothing but are as objects just coming to distract us from the blessings God had already given us while we were running our race. Without knowing this hidden truth we most of the time get shattered and break our vows with God, thinking that we cannot endure the situation.
“Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.”
“And the Lord said unto Moses, wherefore criest thou unto me?speak unto the children of Israel ,that they go forward” (Exodus 14:12,15)
Are we left in a tough situation like Moses? Moses was a man who escaped from Egypt and was brought back again to the land by God after 40 long years. He was a great man of God who led the Israelites out of Egypt, but now we see him confused. With so much of anxiety inside of him we see him crying out to the Lord. At this point Moses is asking God , God you brought me here, I did as you instructed me, but everything I touch or organise ends up to be a big mistake. Sometimes we are left alone in situations like Moses, We may even ask God I did as you instructed, I obeyed your commandment and came back but everything here is turning into a mess. The devil is coming behind me at one side and everyone are going to end up in a big problem because of me and on the other hand I have to hear criticisms of my own people or loved ones, It appears to be like I am left alone without any help, confused .The worst part is when Moses asks God for help, He says why are you asking me, this is where He gets more anxious as he was left in a tough situation to think that even God is not willing to help me. Are we left in situations like this? We must always remember one thing that, Blessings always comes to us only if we have the courage to endure the troubles knocking at our doors.
But most of the time, just like Moses we see only the present situation and we let ourselves out against God in anxiety. In anxiety we sin a lot against God, we tend to turn away from the blessings God has kept for us through frustrations. In Anxiety Moses broke the ten commandments, He hit the rock which God told to speak to. When frustrations come our way we tend to disobey God. Actually we would have never intended to go against God’s will but out of anxiety, frustration, troubles and confusions we break His commandments and lose the blessings God has for us. We lose our temper and lose every wonderful blessing. This even leads us out of track from God’s will. Psalms 94:19 says “ In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul”. We need to realize that even in this situation where it looks like you are surrounded in all sides and there is no way out and when you are struggling in anxiety not knowing what to do, God provides a way.(psalms94:19)
He knows everything before us. We may say it is too much for us to handle the thresh hold level is too high for us to endure the situation, it appears that we may burst out in tears or anger and make the situation worse but God always reminds us that He is always there to make you endure the situation. Sometimes because of the anxiety and stress within us we don’t even look at the blessing God has already given in our hands we just like Moses ask God for help and murmur and cry without knowing that God had already given us the authority in our hands to overcome. The victory is in our hand already given by God instead we blame God and even tend to say God didn’t help me. (Exodus 14:16 But lift thou up thy rod and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea) The rod is in our hands we just have to stretch out and God will do the miracle, He will make us walk through the midst of the sea of troubles, instead we grumble and mourn to God not knowing the hidden blessing. Lift Jesus Christ the rod in any situation He will do the rest. Don’t mourn and get frustrated by seeing the situation, instead find out what God has given in your hand to overcome and amazingly win the situation. Because God has given in our hands the objects of victory the day we were born, we just need to find the hidden blessing amidst perilous waves. The authority to overcome any situation is in our hands, we can perform miracles, as it has been already given to us the day we were saved and became His. We just need to profess it from our mouth instead we still call out and remain in the pit full of doubts. We actually need to be aware that we own the situation as we are His heirs, the situation doesn’t own us. Nothing other than God can hold us down. “If God be for us who can be against us”. We need not fear because we have His resurrection power in us. Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.” We just have to bind the situation with authority as we have His spirit in us. We are special not even the angels had this authority.
(2 Chronicles18:31,2Chronicles 19:1)
Sometimes God puts us in tough situation to bring us back towards Him, to make us trust in Him. He puts us in this tough no way to escape situation to draw us closer to Him, To help us learn to pray even in worst times even at point of death..
I Corinthians 10:13
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it”.
We may think it is difficult for us to endure perilous situations, but we have our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ who was the best living example ever for us. H e showed us how to be patient and endure sufferings to attain a greater ending. He endured the tough path till the end and brought out blessings to everyone instead of backing out in the worst possible times. He knew the purpose He was created. He never minded the situations but was focussed on the hidden blessing behind the worst stormy situation.
When He was put in such a situation we can see that He was accused by His own brothers, chased, betrayed by His own trusted disciples, left alone by God the Father, We read that His sweat came out as blood, He was pushed to the most anxious situation. He had so much of tensions were there was no one to help Him. But unlike others He stood stable instead of losing His temper or moving away from His path. This is because He knew His purpose, God’s purpose and plan. That is the only reason He endured the pain, He knew the price behind it. Satan also knew the situation as usual, that is the reason he tried tempting Jesus several times to make Him deviate from God’s purpose. Satan knows our weakness and he knows very well to tackle every person accordingly. He challenged Jesus to show His power while He was fasting, because he knew the power of prayer. He also tempted Him to disobey God exactly in the wilderness where Jesus was going through tough times. But Jesus did not show His power and disobey God, because He knew that the devil’s plan was to tempt Him and frustrate Him and make Him to do what God did not want.
If Satan was capable enough of doing this to Jesus Christ, he is following the same strategy today on us. Sometimes when he tempts us like this we tend to get frustrated and we let off our temper thinking just about us. We when accused or continuously criticised and irritated tend to say we had enough of the situation. We make up our minds to end up the situation either by a fight or by reacting fast leaving our patience back. We say we couldn’t endure it, how long should I be silent. It’s actually the devil’s trick to move us away from God’s plan. But like Jesus we need to learn to say “Get thee behind me Satan”. He has no authority over us.
God has wonderful plans and blessings for us and for others through us if we endure the trials but instead the tempter puts fears, worries, anger, frustrations, doubts as distractions and he even blindfolds us from not seeing the solution already given to us in our hands. We must keep on running the race until we finish no matter what the challenger tries to do. Spiritual athletes needs to be focussed only onto the one finish line and not to the surrounding distraction.
Every individual will surely be tempted and frustrated while running this race but we need to run this race as bottles which will never be broken even when forced with pressure and shaken .Let us check ourselves if we are bottles that can endure. The endurance comes only when placed in safe hands.
The best way to endure and win this race is by praising and worshipping God no matter what the situation looks like or how big it looks like. The secret of winning is in our hands. The secret formula is to praise God at all times, when we use this secret formula victory is in our hands, we make the enemy tremble. We can turn the tables of our current perilous situation.
Many had victory over their enemies when they used this secret formula. Paul and Silas praised the Lord when they were in chains, the prison broke they were free, but since they were able to endure that tough situation joyfully their purpose of being brought into the prison was accomplished. The jailer was made free and saved. Walls of Jericho fell down because of praise ,they attained the promise land. If they had ran away by seeing the big wall and not believing in the ability God gave in their hands, they would have not got anything.
David overcame his enemies by praise, He won the giant Goliath by singing psalms. In our weakness He gives us strength. The enemy or the troubles may look big and we on the other hand like Gideon may be a coward, like David we may be small, like Moses we may be a stammerer. But on the other hand all the enemies trembled and called them great even when they were weak. The only secret formula is to rely on God and praise Him at all times He makes us a living testimony against all odds. He makes the mighty to fall at our feet. We don’t realise at times but the enemy knows very well that they are fighting with the bravest and strongest opponents. The more we are are weak the more we become strong in God.As we are weak we rely more on Him which is our strength. Learn to praise God at all times that is the only secret formula which will bring victory.
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the Lord , I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord is my strength and He will make my feet like hind’s feet and He will make me walk upon mine high places”.
Spiritual athletes keep on running the race focused on only the finish line and not the hardships and drink this secret formula which will keep on moving us to finish the race……
